Investing in women for a just and sustainable future: UN
The quest for gender equality becomes an inescapable priority, so UN Women launches a call to invest in women to accelerate progress.

In the midst of global crises, the struggle for gender equality becomes more crucial than ever. The guarantee of the women's and girls' rights is essential to forge prosperous, just economies and a healthy planet for generations to come.

However, in order to achieve the gender equality by the year 2030 we face a key obstacle: the alarming lack of fundingwith an annual deficit of 360 billion dollars in gender equality measures, noted UN Women.

In a global context marked by various crises that put unprecedented pressure on communities, the quest for gender equality becomes an unavoidable priority.

The clock is ticking, and March 8, 2024, International Women's DayNow is the time to join forces in the call to "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," UN Women emphasized.

This body is outlining five key areas that require joint action to ensure that women are not left behind:

1. Investing in women: a human rights issue

Time is pressing. Gender equality remains the greatest human rights challenge. Investing in women is a human rights imperative and a fundamental pillar for building inclusive societies. Women's progress benefits all of society.

2. Implementing gender-sensitive financing

Due to conflicts and rising fuel and food prices, recent estimates suggest that 75 percent of countries will reduce public spending by 2025. Austerity negatively impacts women and crowds out public spending on essential services and social protection.

3. The shift towards a green and solidarity economy

The current economic system exacerbates poverty, inequality and environmental degradation, disproportionately affecting women and marginalized groups. Advocates of alternative economic models propose a transition to a green and solidarity economy that amplifies women's voices.

4. Support feminist change-makers.

Feminist organizations are leading efforts to address women's poverty and inequality. However, they face a lack of resources and receive a mere 0.13 percent of total official development assistance.

In a world facing multiple challenges, it is essential to recognize the importance of investing in women as an integral strategy for building a more just and sustainable future for all.
