Organizations and companies join forces to combat plastic pollution crisis
WWF, Ellen MacArthur Foundation and WRAP lead an unprecedented national effort with the support of companies and environmental organizations in launching the Mexico Plastics Pact.

The fight against plastic pollution and the promotion of a circular economy have taken an important step in Mexico with the presentation of the Plastics Pact.

Waste management is a challenge

In a statement, WWF emphasized that Mexico faces a significant challenge in terms of managing the plastic wastewith 5.7 million tons generated annually in an inadequate manner, which contributes to the climate crisis emissions, accounting for 3.4% of the global emissions of greenhouse gases.

The Plastics Pact emerges as a collaborative, non-competitive platform aimed at strengthening current efforts to address the issues generated by the plastic pollution.

The Pact is well received by companies

This commitment has already been adopted by companies such as Yakult, Evertis, Maritime Procurement Services, Bioelements, Grupo Mexico Recycles y EcolanaThe project has the support of experts from various organizations and the participation of the National Association of State Environmental Authorities (ANAAE).

The journalist Paola Rojaswho has adopted a focus on environmental conservation in his work, stressed the importance of the participation of all industrial and business stakeholders in this pact, given the urgency of current environmental risks.

"Mexicans face every day decisions that affect the problem of plastic pollution. This Pact has to do with those decisions and will focus on promoting those changes that require the collaboration of all actors, with the endorsement of the most renowned research centers and civil society organizations in the field," he said.

The Mexico Plastics Pact will initially focus on developing a list of problematic plastic products and identifying strategies for their reduction or elimination, as part of global efforts to address plastic pollution. plastic pollution.

This covenant is part of an international network of 14 covenants in different countries, backed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation y WRAPand is expected to have a significant impact on the promotion of a more sustainable circular economy in Mexico.
