Alliance sets as a goal that by 2035 all cars sold in Mexico will be electric

The firms Tesla, Volvo, VEMO, JAC, BYD, SEV, EverGo y ENEL have formed the Electro Mobility Association A.C. (EMA) through which they are setting the goal that by 2035 every car sold in the U.S. will Mexico electric.

The purpose of EMA is to accelerate the penetration of the electromobility in Mexico, thereby contributing to the fight against the climate change and improve air quality in the country.

"The adoption of electric mobility in Mexico is crucial to address climate change, seek better air quality in our cities, and reduce pollution-related respiratory diseases," Wagner said.

EMA member companies are already responsible for more than 40,275 electric vehicles circulating in Mexican cities, and more than 32,175 chargers installed, of which 335 are fast chargers, 3,373 are chargers in public places, and more than 28,467 are in homes.

The goal is to achieve 50% of automobile sales in Mexico to be electric by 2030, and to reach 100% by 2035.

Wagner stressed the need to establish sound public policies, adequate regulations and a developed freight infrastructure to achieve these goals, in addition to highlighting the importance of education to generate employment, economic spillover and investment in the sector.

EMA aims to collaborate with key stakeholders to drive regulation and practices that encourage adoption and education on electric mobility. It also intends to promote the development, installation and operation of charging infrastructure, addressing one of the biggest challenges to the mass adoption of electric mobility. electric mobility.

This partnership seeks to contribute to economic growth and job creation in Mexico, considering that the country has the right conditions to develop a new manufacturing ecosystem for the development of new products. electric vehicles.

Wagner indicated that so far there are no Mexican brands participating in the association, but they are in talks with several companies in the sector in Mexico and are actively seeking their participation.

The EMA has established strategic alliances at the international level with organizations such as the Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA), the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) and the Electric Mobility Canada.
