Los Cabos, BCS._ _ The Sea of Cortés Region is one of the most privileged places in the world because of its natural beauty and its biological diversitycharacteristics that give it a great potential for attracting entrepreneurs and consolidate itself as a innovation hubhe said Nicolas Shea.
The founder of Cumplo y Start-Up Chile participated in the Summit 2024 Cities with a Future. No fear of actionwhere he offered the conference Cities Building Inclusive Economic Prosperity.
Shea shared with attendees how, in 2009, Chile set out to become the Innovation Hub of Latin America, a project that depended in large part on attracting international talent.
"Innovation entrepreneurship, change, correlates strongly with immigrants and not because immigrants are smarter, it's because people don't know us, they discriminate against us, they don't offer us work and you want to make ends meet, so you have to be entrepreneurial," he explained.
Shea emphasized the commitment of the leaders of the Sea of Cortés Region to meet the challenges facing this area.
"The reason why I have not left Chile and do not intend to leave Chile is the same reason why you are still here, the difference is that you have the Sea of Cortez, what a marvel, what a spectacular place," he said.
For Shea, talent is the key to economic growth in any region.
"The three most important variables are talent, talent and talent," he stressed. "This is not achieved with paternalism; you need strong institutions. Sustainable prosperity is born of individual freedom, creativity and entrepreneurship, something impossible without security and institutions."
He also emphasized that entrepreneurs from all over the world seek places like the Sea of Cortez to establish themselves, although they often arrive as tourists and leave.
To attract and retain this talent, Shea proposes that the region should provide the necessary resources, welcome entrepreneurs and encourage their interaction with the local culture, for it is from these connections that the ideas that will drive development will emerge.
"There are many entrepreneurs who are looking for those places. If Chile was able to present itself to the world as the innovation hub of the region, obviously Mexico and Baja California can do the same, they are in much better conditions to do what we did, especially in the early stages," he reiterated..
