Los Cabos, BCS. _ What Mexico needs is organized civil society and businessmen who actively participate to try to have an impact on problems such as insecurity and inequality, he said. María Elena Morera.
During the conversatory How to assume our responsibility in order to achieve peacein the fourth Summit 2024 from Sea of Cortez Forumthe President of the civil organization Common Cause called for creating a synergy to achieve change.
"There is no way to change this country if we do not change the police, the prosecutors... we have already lost the Judicial Power, but we hope to find part of it again. We do have many things to do and we need all businessmen," said Morera.
During his participation, he informed that there are 44,000 civil organizations in Mexico, an important number, but low compared to the United States, where there are 1.5 million organizations working together with the private sector.
"And why is there no civil organization in Mexico? Because businessmen are very good at their businesses, but they have no social responsibility to support organizations or to be part of the organizations and work, and I think we all need each other here," said the activist to the participants of Summit 2024, proposing research, analysis and positioning of common problems.
"(...) We do it for you, we do research but you have to help us, because Mexico has a great social inequality that we have to improve and it has great problems of violence that we cannot continue to normalize".
Morera spoke of her concerns in a conversation with Agustín Coppel Luken, Honorary President of Foro Mar de Cortés, who recognized the importance of the participation of businessmen in citizen initiatives.
As an example, the President of Coppel Group recalled that years ago he participated in the State Public Safety Council from SinaloaThis led him to get to know the police, their concerns and the complexities involved in working on security issues.
It was also able to carry out joint evaluations and diagnoses and helped to create agendas in a participatory manner with elements that, in turn, felt listened to and accompanied.
"That interest is what influences and what ends up having an impact. If that interest is not there, it starts to be taken up by others and they are not as good as those who are going to take it," said the Honorary President of the Sea of Cortez Forum.
