Grupo Coppel va un paso adelante en la cultura de cuidado del medio ambiente en áreas de trabajo..

Grupo Coppel is a step ahead in the culture of environmental care in work areas.

This Mexican company is promoting an innovative environmental strategy before it becomes mandatory in Mexico. With solar panels in stores, a fleet of electric vehicles and LED lighting in 98% of its stores, it seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and create a culture of sustainability that impacts communities and workplaces.

Los Cabos, BCS. _ Before the care of the environment in work areas is a legal obligation, Coppel Group has already taken a step forward.

This is a family objective and a strategic vision to create synergy with the communities where the companies that are part of the Group are located, he said. Susana Coppel GarcíaPresident of Coppel Foundationduring his participation in the Oceans and Cities panel: Perspectives and Challengesin the Summit 2024 from Sea of Cortez Forum.

"In the last few years we've gotten more into putting numbers and data into this to really understand what the impact is, the footprint we have as a business, our stores, our trucks, the products we sell, and in that analysis, you start to see what I can do better, what I can do more efficiently, and we set goals," he explained.

Coppel Group has developed strategies to reduce its carbon footprint, such as the installation of a solar power plant at Hermosillo and the installation of solar panels in 890 stores and buildings. This last policy is 13 percent complete.

In addition, Coppel Groupwhich bases a large part of its business on product transportation and collection services, has launched the purchase of a fleet of electric or hybrid vehicles.

"We have a new axis in the organization, the sustainability axis where we look at environmental issues, and a committee with all the areas that have to do with these issues," explained the President of the Coppel Foundation.
The sustainability policy began some time ago, said Coppel García, with the implementation of LED lighting in all its buildings, achieving that 98 percent of the stores have this type of lighting with this technology.

The same applies to the control of air conditioning through centralized mechanisms and recycling and water use reduction plans.

Almost immediately there was a decrease in operating expenses.

The plan of Coppel Group sustainability became part of the business values, going beyond the environmental regulations in Mexico.

In addition, the strategy has not only achieved an internal culture of store and building management within the Group, but also a culture of environmental care that transcends the workplace.
