Fabio Duarteleading research scientist and principal investigator of the Real Estate Center and of the Senseable City Labin the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will be one of the invited speakers at the Summit 2024 Cities with a Future. No fear of actionorganized by Sea of Cortez Forum.
This fourth summit of the non-profit civil organization will be held on November 13, 14 and 15 at the Hacienda del Mar hotel, at Los CabosBaja California Sur.
With an impressive track record, Duarte is not only a principal investigator in the Senseable City Labbut also a professor at MIT. His role includes managing multi-year, multi-million dollar, multi-departmental projects, as well as supervising graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and data visualization specialists.
His leadership in data visualization projects has been widely recognized, with mentions in prestigious media such as The Boston Globe, The New York Times and PBS, as well as appearances on the cover of Nature magazine.
In addition, Duarte is Head of Strategic Alliances Research at the MIT Center for Real Estate. His academic contributions have been published in high impact journals such as Science Robotics, Urban Studies, IEEE Internet of Things and Transport Policy.
Prior to his current position at MIT, Duarte was a professor of urban management at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná in Brazilfrom 2003 to 2021. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Twentethe Yokohama National University and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
His practical experience includes directing the team of consultants for the mobility plan of Curitiba, Brazil, and his role as a consultant in urban planning and mobility for the World Bank for the past seven years.
Duarte is also the author of the book "Urban Play: Make-believe, Technology, and Space."published by MIT Pressin which, together with Ricardo Álvarezpromotes the use of technology to make urban life more creative and unpredictable. This innovative approach reinforces its reputation as a leader at the interface between cities and technologies.
