Expert on security and urban conflicts will participate in Summit 2024

Vanda Felbab-Brown, senior foreign policy fellow at the Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy and Technology will be on the panel Safe and Peaceful Cities.

The Summit 2024 Cities with a Future. No fear of actionorganized by Sea of Cortez Forumwill feature the participation of Vanda Felbab-Brownone of the world's foremost experts in the field of security and conflict.

The event will take place from November 13 to 15 at Los CabosFelbab-Brown will be part of the panel. Safe and peaceful citiesa space to discuss the challenges in the urban safety facing cities in the region.

Felbab-Brown, principal investigator for the Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy and Technology in the Foreign Policy program of Brookings, will share the stage with Eduardo Guerrero GutierrezDirector of Lantia Intelligence, in a panel moderated by Rafael Fernández de CastroDirector of the Center for U.S.-Mexico Studies in the UC San Diego.

This meeting seeks to generate innovative and practical strategies to address the growing challenges of the urban violence and the insecurity in cities of the Sea of Cortés Region.

With a distinguished academic and professional background, Felbab-Brown has specialized in non-traditional security threats, including insurgency, organized crime, urban violence and illicit economies.

Your participation in the Summit 2024 is particularly relevant, given his extensive field work in conflict regions such as Afghanistan, Mexico, Somalia and South Asia, where he has analyzed the impacts of violence and drug trafficking on local communities.

In addition to being director of the Non-State Armed Actors Initiative and co-director of the Africa Security Initiative at Brookings, Felbab-Brown has advised at senior levels of government, including her role as a senior advisor to the Study Group on the Peace Process in Afghanistanappointed by the U.S. Congress.

Felbab-Brown is also the author of such influential works as "The Extinction Market: Wildlife Trafficking and How to Counter It". and its most recent "Narco Noir: Mexico's Cartels, Cops, and Corruption".which examines the complex web of drug trafficking in Mexico.
