The actor shared the stage with the actresses Mariana Burelli y Natalia Córdova Buckley on the panel Sea of Cortés Region - Call to Action. Barbara Mori was not present, but sent a videotaped message.
"We are facing the greatest crisis we have ever faced as humanity, we need to take unprecedented collective and immediate action. The longer we continue to put it off, the more difficult the solutions will be," said the Sinaloa-born actor.
For more than 30 years there have been forums on climate change, but few actions have been taken and very little has been done, or at least not enough, which is why the temperature on the planet continues to rise, he added.
Mariana Burelli, who is co-creator of an organic skin care brand, stressed that every action in favor of the planet, no matter how small, has a positive impact.
"I deeply believe in changing habits from our home, every day, as consumers, that is fundamental for there to be a butterfly effect in the rest of the planet's actions. Every grain of sand that each one of us can add creates macro changes in the world. We are part of a whole and denying this interconnectivity is as serious as denying our own existence in this world," he said.
Natalia Córdova brought to the Sea of Cortez Forum Summit her experience of seeing the transformation that Quintana Roo has undergone with tourism developments that were established in the name of development, but have had negative impacts on the environment.
"Here is a new territory, a new tourist destination with enormous potential, let us take the mistakes we have made in the past in Acapulco, in Quintana Roo, and let us not make them today. In Quintana Roo we are about to lose the most valuable thing we have, which is water," he lamented.
Taking care of the environment is fundamental because that is what tourism lives on and if it is not for the love of nature, it must be for the love of money.
Miguel Rodarte indicated that the vast majority of Summit 2022 attendees grew up in this vast and generous region of the Sea of Cortez, which is the whales' favorite place for a reason, and no one wants to see it deteriorate.
"To the extent that we rescue, restore and protect through initiatives, development, research and sustainable and regenerative innovations, we will have unlimited prosperity in the area and we will be making an important contribution to the solution of the planet's problems," he said.
The actor pointed out that the proposal they make to the region's leaders is to reinvent businesses, organizations, societies, practices and seek new ways to put surpluses to work in favor of a better future for all.
"Let's not wait for solutions to come from outside, the problems are global, but the solutions have to be local. Let's empower communities by reducing the inequality gap, through education, strengthening individual capacities, improving community organization and structures, eliminating barriers to participation, so that they have access to quality of life and become allies in the rescue and strengthening of the internal relationship of the human family to rescue our common home," he emphasized.
He also called on the attendees to be congruent and to lead by example.
Through a video message that was projected at the Summit, Bárbara Mori stated that this moment is crucial for the generation of the necessary changes so that the transformation that is taking place is done from a conscience and with the well-being of all in mind.
"It is time to radically change the way we produce, transform, trade and consume, as we are causing massive destruction to the environment, including global warming that is endangering our planet's ecosystem," he said.
The actress invited to join in building a new world, more egalitarian for all, where the next generations can grow up without facing the consequences of selfishness of the current generation.
