In a joint effort to strengthen competitiveness from coffee industry and move towards labor formalization in the agricultural sector, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Ministry of Labor from Colombia and the Governorate of Huila led a day of dialogue in which they presented AgroasesorIA.
This innovative tool, based on Artificial Intelligence (IA), is aimed at providing personalized assistance to the coffee producers through the popular messaging application WhatsApp.
The platform, developed as a pilot project, aims to benefit at least 700 producers over the next six months by providing advice on labor formalization, business management, occupational health and safety, and good agricultural practices. Producers will be able to send their questions to chatbot of AgroasesorIA, who will respond with information tailored to your specific needs.
"AI will be essential to improve the efficiency of the sector. It will allow us to save time and resources, facilitating administrative processes and optimizing production. It is essential that this tool is widely disseminated to maximize its impact on the coffee industry", expressed María Reyes, a coffee producer from the municipality of Gigante.
Huila, as the main producer of coffee in the country, is Colombiawas chosen for this pilot phase because of its strategic importance.
Through this inter-institutional collaboration, we seek to promote sustainable development in the region, especially benefiting small producers, who represent the majority of the coffee sector in Colombia," stated Jorge Andres Gechem Secretary of Economic Development of Huila.

"This initiative seeks not only to raise the competitiveness of producers, but also to improve working conditions as part of the transition to a formal economy," he said.
The initiative is part of the ILO project, Innovative Solutions for Formalization in Latin America and the Caribbean, co-financed by the European Union. This alliance included the Governor's Office of Huila, the Regional Coffee Chain Committee and the project Systemic Strengthening of the Coffee Chaindeveloped in collaboration with the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and with the support of the South Colombian University.
