Caffenio bets on sustainable coffee production
Through the Cosecha program, the Sonoran company integrates initiatives and actions to improve quality and promote sustainable and responsible practices among coffee growers in the region of Huatusco, Veracruz.

Huatusco is a municipality located in the central mountainous region of the state of Veracruzbetween Xalapa and Cordoba. This region is famous for producing the best coffee in Mexico.

A company that has its origins more than 2,000 kilometers away from this coffee paradise is betting on the promotion of sustainable coffee production in this region.

It is about Caffenio that, together with its brand Andattifound in this area the ideal climatic, humidity and soil characteristics for the production of this beverage, in addition to the vast knowledge and experience that local producers have accumulated over many years.

In this region, small producers are proud of what they do and are constantly seeking sustainable alternatives to preserve their way of life and their economic activity with the support of the large companies that buy from them, he points out. Business Insider Mexico.

The news portal specialized in business underlines that Caffenio y Andatti became strategic allies for local producers, since they are two of the main brands that participate in the regional economy by purchasing crops from local producers for subsequent processing and marketing.

Caffenio created the program HarvestThe company has been working to integrate initiatives and actions that support producers to improve quality and encourage sustainable and responsible practices.

Cosecha has been accompanying small producers in Huatusco for more than 11 years, details Manuel Vazquezsustainability specialist at Caffenio.

"We started as a sustainability strategy, which has been growing and currently works on four axes: production, generational replacement, biodiversity and development of coffee-growing communities," he explains.

Thanks to this synergy that has arisen and strengthened between Caffenio and producers have been promoted to improve grain cultivation techniques and generate more efficiency and profitability in the process; in addition, it has benefited producers with training and purchases at fair prices.

The joint work has been crucial in the defense of cloud forests, as it prevents deforestation of the area, says Victor Sampieria local producer who is confident that he and his family will be able to continue growing coffee for generations to come.

This area is facing problems derived from the global climate crisis.
More and more people are looking for farmland in the upper part of the mountain, where it was previously considered unsuitable for quality coffee; in addition, farmers are getting rid of coffee plants faster in order to optimize their production.

"With climate change the area that didn't work for coffee before is now where it is produced," Sampieri adds.

According to the Inter-American Development BankBy 2050, the world's coffee growing areas will be reduced by half. And in the Veracruz highlands we are already beginning to see the effect.

For this reason, Caffenio y Andatti have promoted programs and alternatives in search of sustainability that benefit the environment, producers and secure the company's raw materials.
