The initiative promoted by citizen organizations proposes the recovery of the Sonora River with a master plan for restoration and recreation.

In the face of the growing environmental challenges faced by the Hermosilloas the poor air qualitythe intense heat islands and the hydric stressa citizen's initiative has emerged that seeks to transform the city through the creation of the Green Corridor Sonora River.

The proposal, promoted by groups such as Hermosillo How are we doing? and allied organizations such as Pronatura NoroesteThe objective of the project is to restore and connect the natural areas along the course of the Sonora Riverfrom the Abelardo L. Rodriguez Dam System to Los Jagüeyes Linear Park.

"We must have an action plan, a critical path to identify not only the actors, but also the potential of each space; from there comes the idea of creating a Master Plan and parallel actions," said Karina López Ivich, director of Inspiring Action for a Better World and coordinator of the working group on La Sauceda.

The project is based on the Open Standards methodology, widely used for environmental conservation and restoration. Its implementation contemplates a master plan under construction through participatory workshops with the community and experts.

The planned actions include reforestation, creation of recreational areas, ecological rehabilitation, promotion of regenerative agriculture, and the installation of green infrastructure to help mitigate the effects of climate change. climate change.

Each space will have a key role to play: the Santa Gabriela lagoons will function as thermal regulators; La Sauceda and the Cerro Cementera will be recreational areas; the Metropolitan Park y Los Jagüeyes will be strengthened as a destination for ecotourism y local economy.

The Green Corridor aims to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Hermosillo, and also to become a replicable model for other cities facing similar environmental problems.
