Gustavo D. Danemann, a man dedicated to natural resource conservation

Since 1984, Gustavo Danemann has been an ally in the region Sea of Cortez in the fight for the conservation of natural resources.

He is a marine biologist, with a master's degree in Marine Ecology and a PhD in Coastal Oceanography, specializing in Marine Resource Management. His doctoral thesis deals with the analysis of public policies and natural resource management in the community of Bahía de los ÁngelesBaja California. With it he obtained the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2003 by the Sea of Cortez Researchers Association (AIMAC).

His knowledge has been reinforced and complemented by the different tasks for which he has been responsible, since 1994, when he was coordinator of Educational Projects in the Ensenada Science Museumwhere he remained until 1997.

That year he joined Pronatura Noroeste A. C.The mission of this organization, founded in 1981, is to conserve the flora, fauna, and priority ecosystems of northwestern Mexico, in order to promote the development of society in harmony with nature.

There, Danemann began as Project Coordinator for the Baja California Peninsula, then became Director of Conservation, and since 2001 he has been Director of Marine Conservation and Sustainable Fisheries ProgramSince 2007 to date, he has shared this position with the executive direction of Pronatura Noroeste A. C.

He has more than 30 years of professional experience in northwestern Mexico, in the conservation and administration of natural areas and resources, environmental management instruments, ichthyology, avifauna and wetlands.

He has a special interest in Natural Protected Areas, fisheries, outreach and education, in addition to being an academic and researcher with publications in specialized journals. His passion and commitment to nature conservation has driven the mission of the Pronatura Noroeste team for the past 25 years.

Danemann will moderate the forum talk Thriving Communities in the Sea of Cortezas part of the Summit 2022 Mission Prosperityof Sea of Cortez Forumwhich will be held from November 16 to 18, at Los CabosBaja California Sur.
